The 99-Year Promise

Why this page exists

I do disaster recovery for a living. My whole career is making sure things keep working after everything goes wrong. So before I asked anyone to print one of our QR codes on a business card, a lighter, or the side of a moving box, I wrote a disaster-recovery plan for YOUR links. This page is that plan, in plain English. Most companies promise "lifetime." We wrote down what happens after the lifetime part gets tested.

The Promise

1. Your code never stops working. Every QRLife code keeps scanning and keeps resolving — even if you never pay us a dime, even if you cancel, even if your card expires. When a paid plan ends, your code becomes static at its last destination. It does not break, does not show ads, and does not get resold. Static codes stay live for the life of the service. This Promise covers codes hosted on qrlife.me and its subdomains — where every code we issue lives. A handful of older experiment domains from before the qrlife.me cutover still resolve, so codes printed on them do not break, but they are not covered by this Promise and we do not issue new codes on them. 2. Your destinations are always yours to take. At any time, you can export a complete list of your codes and the destinations behind them — free, no lock-in, no "contact sales."
3. We prepay the foundations. Our domain, qrlife.me, is registered and prepaid years ahead — its current expiry date is published on our Trust page so you can verify it against public WHOIS records — and renewed automatically from a dedicated continuity reserve that is separate from day-to-day operating money. A portion of every lifetime purchase goes into that reserve.
4. The dead-man switch. If QRLife ever winds down — sold, shut, or the founder gets hit by the proverbial bus — we commit to: (a) at least 12 months of advance notice to every account email; (b) free export of every code and destination during that entire period; and (c) releasing the redirect service as open-source software so anyone — including you — can keep the codes alive.
5. Succession is written down. QRLife is family-owned and family-run. Responsibility for this Promise, the continuity reserve, and the dead-man switch is assigned in our operating agreement — it survives the founder. Two successors are designated, in order, in our operating agreement.
6. If we are ever acquired, the Promise goes with us. Any sale of QRLife will contractually require the buyer to honor this Promise for all existing codes, or trigger the dead-man switch above.
7. Your scans are never metered. Every code you have already created has unlimited scans, forever. If scan policies ever changed for future products, they would apply only to newly created codes — never retroactively to yours. The only exception is abuse: scan traffic that is part of fraud or a Terms of Service violation.

What "99 years" means (and honest limits)

"99 years" is our design target — the standard we build and budget against, not a claim that we can see the future. Nobody can lawfully guarantee a century of anything, and we will not insult you by pretending otherwise. What we guarantee is the plan above: prepaid foundations, a funded reserve, a written wind-down procedure, and an open-source escape hatch, so your code outlives any one company, server, or person. The Promise does not cover things outside anyone's control (internet-wide standards changes, registry seizures, force majeure) and does not apply to codes removed for illegal content or abuse under our Terms of Service.
